VIDEO: Army's 'Hoverbike' Prototype Takes Flight

The United states Regular army's 'hoverbike' prototype took flight last week. The autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), known formally equally Joint Tactical Aerial Resupply Vehicle, or known every bit the hoverbike colloquially amid those close to the project, could someday make information technology possible for soldiers on the battleground to order and receive necessary supplies in less than 30 minutes, co-ordinate to Tim Vong, the Acquaintance Chief of the Army Enquiry Laboratory'southward Protection Division.

While it can, supposedly, hold up to 140kg of supplies correct at present, Vong claimed the Army Inquiry Laboratory is hoping to increase that to around 400kg in the future.

Ground forces researchers envision it being able to fly depression to the basis, or thousands of feet upwardly in the air, at speeds up to 60mph or more.

Vong said the hoverbike will be like having eCommerce giant "Amazon on the battlefield." The current prototype is electric, but researchers are looking into a hybrid propulsion system, a concept that would 'drastically' increase its range, extending it upwards to 200km.

"The demo we saw was a unique opportunity for u.s.a. to show a seamless transition between i Army organisation with [it's military counterpart] and having the industry along the whole time," Ernesto Garcia Lopez from the Army's Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) added.
